Extended hours approved for The Matador: Greenville Board of Zoning Appeals notes
Here’s a recap of the city of Greenville Board of Zoning Appeals’s meeting June 12:
Approved: Late nights for The Matador
Newly-opened downtown bar The Matador, located at 722 S. Main St., applied for a special exception permit to operate after midnight. Approval would allow the bar to operate from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Owner Zak Melang was present to explain that adding the extra hours would aid in the restaurant’s late-night happy hour, which begins at 10 p.m.
Several members of the community spoke in favor of the application and there were no comments in opposition. It was approved by the board.
Approved: Kings Classic School
King’s Classic School submitted an application for a special exception permit for a school. The school will be located at 3018 Augusta St. and 105 Old Augusta Road near the Pleasant Valley neighborhood. The matter was approved by the board.
The school will begin by serving kindergarten to second grade, with further grades added each year.
Deferred: Reys exception

Reys, located at 20 N. Main St., applied for a special exception to operate after midnight. The matter was deferred to the August meeting. The downtown Greenville bar and restaurant is currently undergoing renovations. It went before the city’s Design Review Board May 15 for an application to update its facade. Plans call for a new patio at the restaurant’s storefront and an operation extension to the building’s upstairs.
