Hampton-Pinckney Porchfest wins SC Heritage Tourism Award
On June 18, Hampton-Pinckney Porchfest was awarded a South Carolina Heritage Tourism Award. The award is given to local attractions that utilize tourism for the benefit of cultural preservation.
Porchfest is a nonprofit confluence of live music, food and crafts in the historic Hampton-Pinckney neighborhood in downtown Greenville. Bands play on the porches of historic homes while festival goers peruse the neighborhood. The Hampton-Pinckney neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The event held its inaugural event in 2021 and has since erected a historic marker for the area.
Gov. Henry McMaster presented that award at the South Carolina Statehouse in Columbia. Past winners include travel guides Explore Up Close and The Green Book of South Carolina and the Preservation Society of Charleston’s Fall Tour of Homes.
The award program began in 1995 and is based on four criteria:
- Triumph over challenge in conducting the project
- A recorded tourism impact
- Commitment to historic preservation and technique
- Involvement with historic sites
