Simpsonville to consider short-term rental ordinances: City Council notes

Here is a recap of the Simpsonville City Council meeting on June 24.

Advanced: Short-term rentals ordinances

Council advanced a pair of ordinances that would legalize short-term rentals in the city and establish guidelines, like defining the property type and business license requirements. These items will go before the Planning Commission for discussion Aug. 5, and if approved, they will return to the City Council for further discussion at its Sept. 23 meeting.

Other item: Simpsonville travel softball discussion

During the citizen comments portion of the meeting, several residents requested that the Parks and Recreation department sponsor the Simpsonville Sass and Simpsonville Surge, two girls’ travel softball teams that consist of players who have participated in the city’s recreation leagues.

If they obtain sponsorship, the teams hope to have scheduled field time at Heritage Park as opposed to competing with other groups in the first-come, first-served model for travel leagues.
