SC Governor’s School raises over $250K at 25th anniversary gala

The South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special gala in April.

More than $250,000 was raised for the Governor’s School Foundation’s Thrive25 initiative at the event. This initiative aims to increase access to the school for students with financial needs who wish to pursue preprofessional arts training.

The 25th Anniversary Gala was held April 26 at The Westin Poinsett in downtown Greenville. The event included an award ceremony to honor alumni, individuals and organizations that have impacted the arts and the Governor’s School.

The following awards were presented:

  • President’s Distinguished Alumni Award: Carolyn Bolton, creative director of English National Ballet’s Youth Company
  • President’s Young Alumni Award: Joshua Dantzler, senior specialist in employee experience and culture at Amtrak and the founder of DICE Consulting
  • Fred Collins Luminary Award for Foundation Leadership: The Daniel-Mickel Foundation
  • Fred Collins Luminary Award for Individual Philanthropy: Sue Emanuelson and Liz MacLeod

Students’ work from all six art areas — creative writing, dance, drama, film, music and visual arts — alongside academics and outreach was also displayed in a curated gallery at the gala. Amanda Herlihy, executive director of the Governor’s School Foundation, said the evening was more than a celebration but a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people invest in young artists.

“Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Thrive25 will help remove financial barriers and ensure that South Carolina’s most talented students have the opportunity to grow, learn, and lead in the arts,” Herlihy said.
