Duke Energy is urging their customers in the Carolinas to reduce energy consumption today, June 23, during the period of peak demand from 3 to 8 p.m.

Reducing electricity demand by, for example, turning up thermostats, turning off unused appliances and delaying use of washing machines, driers and electric ranges will reduce strain on the electric grid and help reduce the potential for outages, according to Duke Energy.

Prolonged high temperatures across the majority of the East Coast this week are expected to increase demand on the electric grid.
