Greenville receives three proposals for downtown conference center
Efforts to create a conference center in downtown Greenville are progressing.
In mid-February, the city of Greenville issued a request for information inviting private developers to submit new ideas for a conference center with an adjacent or connected high-end hotel. Three proposals were submitted to the city by the April 18 deadline.
City leadership has begun the process of reviewing the proposals.

Greenville City Manager Shannon Lavrin recently highlighted the project in a “state of the city” update during a May 12 meeting of City Council. She explained that the city will choose a team to develop a hotel conference center with “unique character and exceptional style that is distinctly Greenville.”
Submissions to the city’s RFI were required to include the project’s proposed location, the hotel brand, the number of hotel rooms, net rentable square feet of conference space, a parking plan, a preliminary budget and other details. The project’s construction and operational costs would be covered by the private developer, with negotiable financial assistance from the city.
“We are poised for our next catalytic project,” Lavrin said. “Public-private partnerships sparked the stunning transformation of our downtown, and we will be putting forth our best efforts to bring to life a long-awaited downtown conference center.”
