Meals on Wheels celebrates $11M raised with topping-off ceremony

Meals on Wheels of Greenville County recently reached a significant capital campaign milestone for its new campus on Augusta Road.

The nonprofit organization has raised $11 million of its $13 million campaign launched in July 2024. The funding will cover the construction costs and the increased operational costs for the facility’s first three years.

To celebrate the fundraising milestone, Meals on Wheels held a topping-off ceremony for its new campus at 3905 Augusta Road on May 15. Once completed, the 24,000-square-foot facility will help expand the nonprofit’s operations and delivery services.

“As we came together to sign and raise the final structural beam, this celebration was truly about elevating a vision made possible by every supporter who has contributed to our campaign so far,” said Catriona Carlisle, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Greenville.

Hathaway Family Foundation’s recent commitment to the capital campaign brought the fundraising total to $11 million. Andrew Ross, director of Hathaway Family Foundation, said the foundation wants to be part of projects that look to the future and improve the lives of its neighbors.

“This project is more than just a building. It’s a commitment that we as a community will continue to provide the lifeline of a meal and friendly interaction to those who are homebound,” Ross said.

Meals on Wheels also received a donation from Fluor through its 2024 Golf for Greenville charity tournament. In addition, Greenville City Councilmember Dorothy Dowe and her husband, Steve, pledged $500,000 to the campaign.

“Our decision to support was based on the significant reach, and resulting impact, that Meals on Wheels has on our community,” Dorothy Dowe said.

Construction of the 24,000-square-foot facility started in January and is expected to be done by early 2026. The facility’s structural steel is now complete. Preparation and pouring for the slab on grade and slab on deck have started.
